Beard Care & Maintenance

Beard Care and Maintenance – Taming Your Face Mane

At Tommy Guns Original Barbershop we are proud supporters of facial hair, and we believe that you should always give your beard the care and attention it deserves. We’ve pulled back the chin curtains to compile a list of some must-do maintenance for the man who wants to keep that face mane tamed!

  1. Your Barber is your Best Friend
Growing your beard can be a lengthy process, but now that you’ve made the commitment to let it grow – avoiding a scraggly beard is key. Don’t abandon your barber just because you want to keep a bit of length on your chin whiskers. Trimming your beard regularly promotes a healthier, fuller beard and can even promote faster growth.
  2. Sean Diddy Combs That Bad Boy
Chances are you made it through the growing stages and have endured that scratching and itching beard phase. Combing the beard everyday will not only improve the way your beard feels, but you will train it which way to grow, alleviating patchiness and problem areas.
  3. Hydra-Beard
Hydration of the skin and beard is paramount to a thick and delicious beard. After a shower your pores are more open and will more readily absorb anything you put on it. Before bed apply a beard balm. This will allow the product to spend the maximum amount of time on the skin and beard allowing for a deep conditioning which means a softer yet stronger beard.
  4. Clean Up Your Act
Shampoo and Conditioner – Not just for the hair on your head anymore. Products like this should be used frequently. Your beard is coming in contact with food crumbs and all sort of things that your hair does not. Be wary of commercial brands that contain harsh chemicals that can actually dry out the skin and leave beard hair brittle. Be sure to check the ingredients list in search of things like natural oils and ingredients that will leave your beard fluffy and touchable.
  5. Oils vs. Balms
With so many options to choose from, keeping track of what goes where can be a tricky task. But when it comes to beard maintenance two things remain clear; Just as grass won’t grow well on dry ground, a beard won’t grow well on dry skin. Beard oils are essential for keeping the skin underneath the beard healthy, and balms keep the beard hair conditioned.
